The Best in the World

First, let me start by saying that my son Dawson is quite possibly the most complimentary 4 year old...maybe any age person...that I've ever met. He notices even the smallest details and makes a point to compliment those things.

For instance, Dawson was at my parents house the other day, and my parents had recently repainted their bathroom and gotten new accessories. Well, Dawson just went on and on about how much he loved the new paint colors, towels, even the "winter scene" picture.

It's not just obvious things like a new bathroom, but even the little things like the pajamas I'm wearing or Kevin's shirt or Abigail's behavior.

Lately, he has turned to complimenting my food, and I have to say I feel like a hero of the kitchen these days. We made some cookies together the other day, and he continued to talk about how they were the best cookies in the world. Not just to me, but to Kevin as well. I overhear him and Kevin downstairs talking, and Dawson's telling Kevin how "Mommy makes the best cookies in the world."

He's just one big compliment, and it's so endearing. I'm so thankful for the fact that Dawson takes in his surroundings and takes the time to positively comment on it. He's an amazing little boy!

First Steps

Yeah...Abigail took her first steps on Thanksgiving day! She took three steps unassisted on her way to her favorite target...mommy. We were so excited!
Since then she has only ventured out on her own for a few steps before realizing what is really happening, but she is well on her way to walking. Exciting times in the Propes house.

Halloween

This year was Abigail's first Halloween. To my surprise, she really enjoyed dressing up and showing her costume off to everyone. She was a lion...just like her brother was when he was one. Dawson was James the Tank Engine...again. This is year number two being James. I was going to be creative and make him "Hamper Boy", but I was told that people at school might make fun of him. Sad times that my boy already feels the pressure from his peers. What's this world coming to? Oh, what's that you say, why yes, I do remember making fun of other kid's when I was in Kindergarten...okay, never mind, on with the pictures.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

This has been a long time coming, but here are some pictures from the Propes family visit to Hinton's Orchard. Dawson enjoyed hanging out in the silo and sliding and climbing on the tile slides and hay. Abigail just enjoyed looking at the pumpkins and cows. It was a fun day had by all.

Awakening

Do you ever have one of those days that you are just awakened to the blessings that are all around you? Well, I've had one of those days...actually weeks. It was nothing in particular that happened...I just stopped going through the motions of motherhood and really just savored the time with my kids. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my kids all the time...some days are more enjoyable than others :) This week, however, God gave me the vision and grace to "really" just enjoy my kiddos and soak in who they are in full.

I've really been able to enjoy Dawson's (4 years) great sense of humor this week. He's always been a humorous kid, but lately he's gotten even funnier. Just little things that he's done...he's so hilarious. I've also been able to appreciate his thoughtfulness and caring nature. He is a very compassionate person who is gifted in being sensitive to other people's feelings and needs.

Abigail (10 months) has really grown into such a big personality in the past few months. The past few days, she has started doing doing this funny face when she does something funny, wants to make me laugh...or knows that she has done something she shouldn't :) I absolutely love it! The past few days, she's been real excited about prayer time. Every time we get to the end of the prayer and get ready to say amen, she looks at me with those big, brown eyes full of anticipation, and then when we say amen she gives me that funny look (mentioned above) and giggles. Today, she even started to say amen with us...well, okay, not really amen...it's more like "A" or "Ah", but she's trying. It's precious.

Anyway, thank you God for awakening me from my day-to-day routine and allowing me to see my children for who they are and savor all the moments I have with them.

Another Fall Harvest Video

It's Party Time

Today, Dawson had a Fall Harvest Party at school. The students got to dress in costumes and parade around the sanctuary. We were then treated to some wonderful singing by all of the Pre-K classes. Later in the day, Dawson's class had a party where they had some yummy treats to eat on. A great time was had by all!

Here are some videos from the day's events.

Warning: You may get seasick while watching these videos...I was using my camera, which isn't the best at recording, because I was out of discs for my video camera. Please forgive the poor videography.

State Fair Time

It's August and that means one thing...Kentucky State Fair time. It's a family tradition in the Propes house. Since Dawson was born we've been taking him, and this year we initiated Abigail into the tradition.

We made a "mini-adventure" out of the trip this year. We drove up on Thursday afternoon and spent the afternoon at the fair. Abigail and I went back to the the hotel early in the evening so that I could get her to bed at her normal bedtime, while Kevin, Dawson and Papaw Donnie stayed at the fair so that Dawson could ride all of the kiddie rides. This was the first year that Dawson was tall enough to ride any rides, and he had an absolute blast!

Here are some pictures from our State Fair adventure...

Pre-K

Today Dawson attended his first day of Pre-K. He absolutely loved it! He couldn't stop talking about everything he did and learned. For example, if you feel sick go to the trash can or potty and it will just fall right in...good useful tip we should all apply :)
It's hard to believe that 3 years and 11 months ago he was a newborn and today he's heading off to Pre-K. What a wonderful 3 years and 11 months it has been watching Dawson grow into the big boy he is today. I'm proud of Dawson! It has been so evident that God has been at work in Dawson's life these past 4 years, and I can't wait to see how God works in his life in the future.

Here are some pictures of Dawson's first day of school...

It's about time...

Well, I've had this blog created for over a month now, but I haven't gotten around to posting anything yet. So, here I go...I am now officially entering the land of the blog!
Anyone who knows me knows that I love to tell stories. That's why I created this blog, so that I can share the stories of my life...stories about my family, my faith, random events, etc.. So, for all those who stumble upon this, I hope you enjoy getting just a little glimpse into my world!
